SUNDAY ISLAND
LANDING FOOD SUPPLIES
REPORT FROM RELIEF KETCH
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day.
•' According to radio advice received by G. H. George and Co., Ltd., the auxiliary ketch Miena, which left Auckland last week to take provisions to a survey party on Sunday Island, arrived at the island at 8 o'clock on Monday morning after encountering heavy north-east winds for two days. Supplies were being landed immediately and it was expected that the Miena would! sail again for Auckland on Monday night. ' ' " ■■-'■■■■
The Miena was chartered by the Government in response to urgent messages received from the survey party, and she sailed on Wednesday of last week under Captain A. W. Burgess. Previous attempts had been made by H.M.S. Achilles and H.M.S. Leander to land supplies, bui they were prevented from approaching the shore through bad weather. '
With favourable weather the Miena should be back in Auckland by the end of the week.
