W.E.A. GATHERINGS

The chaos existent in the world today was the keynote of the lectures and discussions held at the Workers' Educational Summer School at the Feilding Agricultural High School, which finished on Sunday night. The school was the first to be held in the Victoria University College district. Fifty persons attended, their ages ranging from six months to 72 years. Mr. H. C. D. Somerset, of the Community Centre, opened the lecture courses with an address on "Art and the Community." Professor F. L. Wood's lectures on "International Issues" proved food for much thought. On the professor's return to 'Welling-ton-the course was. carried on by Mr. Ormond Wilson, Mr. S. J. Bennett,/and Dr. .. I. Reifer, each of whom gave a topical lecture.

.A Series of lectures on "Literature and Social Change" was given by Mr. H. Winston Rhodes.

A study group on "Problems of Trade Unionism" was conducted by Mr. A. S. Hely, much valuable' work being done. Mr. G. J. Garner conducted a similar group, on "Story Writing for Magazine and Radio."

Among the visitors to the school were the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, Mrs. Nash, Mr. Ormond Wilson, ahd Dr. J. C. Beaglehole. Mr. Nash gave an address on "Sterling Funds."

Facilities were provided in the High School grounds for swimming and tennis. Several hikes were made during the recreation periods, one being to the extensive farm property of the High School.

On New Year's Eve a concert was held in the school hall. Community singing was conducted during the intervals between items and at the conclusion of the concert indoor recreation and dancing were enjoyed.

On the following night a play reading was given.
