LONDON UNEMPLOYED
DEPUTATION TO "NO. 10"
WINTER RELIEF SCALES
(British Official Wireless.) (Received January 4, 12.45 p.m.) . RUGBY, January 3. A letter to Mr. Chamberlain asking him to receive a deputation of "unemi ployed" regarding the winter relief scales was handed in at No. 10 Downing Street by,the leaders of a group of about seventy men connected with the London committee of an organisa-" tion called the National Unemployed Workers' Movement. The men at> tempted a demonstration and the police had to move them on, but no arrests were made.
The visit to Downing Street is the sequel to one or two other small demonstrations in the West End round about Christmas time and organised by the same committee. A petition was sent a few days ago to the King which, as they were advised, his Majesty had passed to "his responsible advisers."
