There was a -sprinkling of spectators when play recommenced at 10.30. The match will conclude today. At close of play yesterday Wellington in their first innings had been dismissed, for 265 and Canterbury had scored 146 for five wickets, Rumbold being 38 not out and Burgess 32 not out. • Burgess played very sound cricket this morning and mixed safe batting with sparkling shots all round the wicket. Rumbold carried his score to i 52 and, with Burgess, the total to 179 before he was caught by Mooney off Manley. ' Moriey, Empson, arid Callaway all failed to score and were victims to Rabone's bowling. Marshall scored a few before he fell lbw to FJanagin and the innings closed" for , 220 runs, Burgess carrying his bat for 79: Rabone, with six for 59, was the pick of the Wellington bowlers. Wellington commenced their second! innings at noon, Alexander and Parkin opening to the bowling of Burgess andi Marshall. With the total 12, Alexander, who had scored a splendid century in the first innings, lost sight of a ball

from Marshall and departed—bowled— with 8 to his credit. FIELDSMAN HURT. Dentice was next man, and after he had scored a few singles he pulled a slow ball from Burgess with terrific power to leg. Empson, fielding close in on the leg side, received the full force of the ball above the eye and he was carried from the field. The Free Ambulance was sent for and it appeared as if several stitches would be necessary. The score was taken with bright batting to 62 at the luncheon adjournment, Parkin being 21 and Dentice 28. When play resumed this afternoon Dentice and Parkin settled down quickly and gave a bright exhibition of batting. When the former had reached, 59 he was run out, and Rough joined Parkin. At 2.30 Parkin reached 50, with Rough 10. The total was then 138 for two wickets. Details:— Wellington, First Innings 265 Second Innings.
