TREASURY ANNOUNCEMENT
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 31. A Treasury announcement,states that the gold held in the Exchange Equalisation Account at September 30 was 21,684,000 fine ounces, equivalent at ■'.' 140s an ounce to about £151,800,000. Including the gold held in the issue department of the Bank of England, the total was about £689,400,000, compared with £816,900,000 at March 31. The holding of gold-at September 30, ■■,' while substantially reduced in comparison with the high level at which it stood at-March 31, 1938, and September. ' 30, 1937, is still much the same as it ' was in March, 1937, before the largescale influx of funds to London began.
