HOLIDAY TRAVEL
EXTRA TRAINS PUT ON
RETURNING TO WORK
Apart from meeting the requirements of picnic parties and people desiring to attend the Tauherenikau races tomorrow and Monday, the various transport Services will be more concerned during the next few days with returning holiday-makers than with people travelling from Wellington. There will, of course, be a large number of through travellers and additional trains will be run to carry them. Additional express trains will run between Auckland and Wellington every day up to the end of next week. Two extra expresses will reach Wellington from Auckland today, tomorrow, and on January 1, 2, and 3. On Wednesday three extra expresses will arrive. On the other days up to and including Saturday, January 7 (except Sunday, January 1), one extra express will arrive. Additional express trains to Auckland will also be dispatched from Wellington. The heaviest day will be on Monday, when three additional expresses will leave. Two extra expresses are being dispatched today and on January 3 and 4, and on the remaining days up to and including January 7 there will be one extra express. The above figures include the daylight Limited put on during the holidays, but that train will cease to run after Wednesday, January 4. LOCAL TRAINS. To cater for holiday-makers from Wellington desiring to visit beaches and to spend the weekend at Palmerston and Masterton, additional trains are being run tomorrow and on Monday, and special additional passenger, trains to Masterton tomorrow and on Monday will cater for Tauherenikau race traffic. On Monday augmented train services will operate between Wellington and Paekakaraki and Wellington and Upper Hutt to» caterfor picnic parties and people desiring to visit the various beaches. Although the figures have not been totalled yet it was ascertained from a Railway Department officer today that reservations are heavy on all express trains up to the middle of next week. INTER-ISLAND STEAMERS. Inter-island passenger steamers between Wellington and Picton and Wellington and Lyttelton will maintain ordinary timetables except that on Tuesday, January 3, daylight trips will be run both ways between Wellington and Lyttelton. Special accommodation for motor-cars will be provided on the Waipahi, which will be dispatched from Wellington to Lyttelton on January 3, 5, and 7. Provided weather conditions are suitable the Rangatira will make a return excursion trip to Picton on Monday^ CITY TRAMS AND BUSES. The Wellington tramways will maintain the usual Sunday services (tram and bus) on Sunday (New Year's Day), and on Monday and Tuesday the usual services will be run. The Happy Valley, Brooklyn West, Hataitai, Kilbirnie-Evans Bay, Vogeltown, and "Northland bus services will not run during the holidays, and special timetables have been arranged for the Karori, Roseneath, Melrose, View Road-Houghton Bay, BrooklynMornington, and Seatoun-Karaka BayWorser Bay-Scorching Bay services. Special ferry steamer and bus services will operate between Wellington and Eastbourne. AIR SERVICES. Commercial air services will maintain their usual timetables over the holidays, with the exception that on Monday and Tuesday two additional return trips will be made from Wellington to Blenheim. Inward bookings from Nelson and Blenheim are very heavy, and a further extension of the timetable may be necessary.
