NO FOOD OR SHELTER
"This man has been sleeping out near the wharves for some nights, he had Is 4d in his possession, and it was apparent to the constable who found him at an early hour this morning that he had had no food for some time," said Sub-Inspector J. A. Dempsey in the Magistrate's Court today concerning William Browne, aged 70, a labourer, who was remanded until January 6 on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person without sufficient lawful means of support.
The sub-inspector explained that the Salvation Army would almost certainly do something for the man, who had lost his memory and believed that he was about 12 or 14 years old.

A motorist travelling from Hamilton to Auckland between 9 a.m and noon one day counted 403 cars with camp equipment on board proceeding south. Of these, 27 had caravans and 20 had trailers attached.
