ICEVUS TAKES THE SPRINT

AUCKLAND, December 29. The feature of the second day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting was the feat of F. J. Smith in training three consecutive winners, the successful trio being Resistance, Van Derby, and Sandusky. Backers generally experienced a shade better run than on the opening day, even though there were three mild surprises. The weather was fine and the track in great order, while the attendance was large. During the day the^jtalisator handled £51,517 10s, as against £37,943 last year, this making a total of £125,342 10s for the two days, compared with £90,511 10s—an increase of £34,831. The order into the straight was the same, and Icevus won by. half a length from Hai> lequin, with Out Peggy A neck away, half a length in front of Crocus. Theri came Horse Power, Toorak, Gold Dredge, and Nervie's Last. Waipahi failed to go away correctly and was pulled up.
