EXPENSIVE "PROPS."

Everyone in the studio of the Mayflower unit, working on "St. Martin's Lane," Action Pictures's new Charles Laughton picture, with the exception of Tim Whelan, the director, and Vivien Leigh, were under the impression that the jewels worn in a sequence were made of paste. It now appears that they were some of the most expensive "props" ever used in a film— the bracelet alone was worth £7000, while the rings and earrings amounted to another £3000. The jewels were lent by Boucherons, of Bond Street; who insisted, just in. case of accident, that the loan should be kept secret until after the final shot had been taken and their representative should be constantly on the set whenever the jewels were in use.
