AUSTRALIAN RIDER
N.Z. TOUR PROPOSAL
I The New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association has in view the possibility |of inviting a prominent Australian j amateur cyclist to the Dominion for a six weeks' tour, beginning at the end of February. R. Porter, winner of the 100 metres time trial, and/or Duncan Gray, winner of the 100 metres scratch sprint N at the British Empire Games in Sydney earlier this year, have been mentioned in this connection. The Wellington Amateur Cycling Centre is supporting the proposal, a unanimous decision to this effect being made at a recent meeting presided over fcjy the president, Mr. W. Wolland. The following events are to be held in conjunction with the sports meeting on the Basin Reserve on January! 7:—440 yards handicap, 880 yards junior handicap, one mile^ handicap, three miles points race, one mile invitation scratch race. Those who have been invited to compete in the mile invitation event are R. Ulmer, T. Roe, P. Roe, W. Keighley, J. Wilson, R. Dutton, I*. Sowerby, O. Disley, and C. Biggs. Entries close on January 4 at Messrs. James Smiths, Ltd. Late entries will be received. '
The officials selected for the meeting are:—Manager, Mr. P. N. Robinson; referee, Mr. L. Williams; handicapper, Mr. P. N. Robinson; judges, Messrs. W. Sowerby, O. S. Duraford, and P. N. Robinson; marksman, Mr. F. H. Robinson; track stewards, Messrs. L.- Logan, R. Menzies, and F. H. Robinson. . •
Commencing on January 14, cycling events are to be held on the Hataitai ground each Saturday in conjunction with athletic events.
The chairman welcomed the newlyappointed honorary secretary, Mr. A. Amey.
