SPEEDY SKY GIANT
Cruising at an altitude of 20,000 feet, the oceanic flying-boat designed by Consolidated Aircraft Corporation for Pan-American Airways, will race along with its hundred passengers and crew of sixteen at a top speed of 276 miles an hour —four and one-half miles a minute. Thirty-six of the passengers will be accommodated in cabins enclosed in the high wing, the rest being assigned to the main compartment. The cabins will be sound-proof and airconditioned. Specifications call for a wing span of 194 feet, an over-all length of 102£ feet, and gross weight of 168,000 pounds. The four engines of 2150 horsepower will enable the ship to reach an absolute ceiling of 30,000 feet, and it will have a cruising range <k£ five thousand miles.
