ABOUT STOCKINGS

THREE PAIRS AT A TIME

With the advent of the warmer weather, and the buying of new clothes, hosiery comes in for a definite share of attention, states the" '"CapeTimes." Remember these few rules regarding it:—

Buy stockings, three pairs at a time, the same shade and quality. By this means it is easy to interchange them if there should be a ladder, and it is a real economy. Wear them carefully in turn so that the colours are kept quite even.

Find out accurately what size you should take, and never buy stockings which are too small. Experiment, too; some makes are inclined to be a little larger in shape than others. So decide on the make according to the size of your legs.

If you are buying evening stockings, chiffon is now the mode or twothread. Three-thread is worn Dy many women in the afternoon or service weight; four-thread for all day long. If perhaps you only buy ser-vice-weight and chiffon, don't be tempted to wear chiffon during the day if your means are limited. The material cannot, be guaranteed, and is not meant for hard wear.

New stockings should be carefully rinsed in warm water before being worn. This helps the elasticity and also increases the wear of the stockings.

If possible, stockings should be washed after each wearing. But if this is sometimes impossible, and if it is necessary to wear them a second day, change the right stocking to the left foot. This will prevent rub in the same place.

Always wash hosiery in soft soapy water, and never never dry near a radiator, fire, or hi the sun.

Victor Stiebel has designed a lovely ensemble of black wool—high-necked, elongated, jacket with a double-breast-ed line, and worn over a box-pleated skirt, and pigskin targets on the jacket.
