SUCCESSFUL PARTY

ORIENTAL CABARET EN FETE

Over a hundred students and friends attended a dance and social sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, held at the Oriental Cabaret, Courtenay Place, on Saturday evening. Organised by Mrs. M. H. Millar, the object of these functions is to enable the students of the various classes to meet each other in congenial surroundings. Mr. Bellroy Williams (producer-director), spoke to the students, and Mr. C. M. Smith was M.C. Items, which were greatly appreciated, were rendered as follows: — Songs, Mr. C. M. Smith; novelty tap dancing, Judy Cooper and Betty Paynter (pupiljs of Miss Hazel Martin); acrobatic dancing, Miss Phyllis O'Shea and Mr. Jack Glennie; song, Miss Walker; novelty dance, Joyce Leney. Prizes were awarded for the best fancy dress representing film-star characters from a well-known film. The winners were Miss B. Moody ("Joan Crawford") and Mr. Bernard Riley ("Robert Taylor"), from the picture "The Gorgeous Hussy."

Those present included Mesdames Bevey, Leney, Wood, Sinclair, E. Smith, O!Shea, Walker (pianist), Entwistle, Philips, M. H. Millar; Misses B. Moody, N. Walker, I. Riley, Hazel Martin, Roma Hoggard, Walker, Peggy Neil; and Messrs. Bellroy Williams (director), Lee Hill (camera-man), Chatter, C. Harrison, Sim, C. M. Smith, F. Horn, Entwistle, Tirrell, Johnson, J. 'Glennie, Benjamin, Sinclair, N. Hoggard, B. Riley. > A vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. M. H. Millar* for organising the function and she was presented with i a bouquet.
