GERMAN CLAIMS
WHAT THEY MEAN TO KENYA
The Kenya Convention of Associations, the settlers' parliament, opened o- October 19, says the "Daily Telegraph and Morning Post" All.colonists' interests are represented on this body.
The Earl of Enroll, referring to Tanganyika, said: —
"I have on many occasions expressc the view that any return of Tanganyika to Germany must prove disastrous to Kenya.
, "Thej are those who say 'Give Tanganyika to Germany and then the Imperial Government will be forced to fill up Kenya's empty spaces.' Those people lorget that the empty spaces would be filled not with settlers but with soldiers.
"Kenya would in effect become an African Czechoslovakia with Italy on the northern ooundary and Germany on her southern. Nor do I believe jthat the^return ox Tanganyika to Germany would prevent a European conflagration should the totalitarian States decide that the moment had come to initiate one.
"Should Tanganyika be returned it would spell Kenya's doom, as it would mean that Kenya would either become the playground for the few who could afford to live here without farming, or would become, if trusteeship of the native means anything, can armed camp which would prove a greater irritant to Germany than if Tanganyika were not returned tc her."
