SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS,

: Pressure has continued high in the • North Tasman Sea and rose somewhat over the Dominion yesterday, but has fallen again, a very deep depression now being centred in the far south. North-easterly winds have predominated in the southern half of the South Island; elsewhere winds have gradually turned from south-west towards north-west and have risen to gale force in places north of Cook Strait. After scattered showers early, the weather yesterday became fair to fine generally, but in central districts and the far south rain has occurred overnight, with heavy falls in the former area. Extremely numerous thunderstorms occurred this morning in central districts, being unprecedentedly prolonged and severe in the western portions of the Wellington Province.
