GREAT PAL BACK
STRFP IN GOOD ORDER
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
DUNEDIN, December 5. i With the approach of the Dunedin Jockey Club's Summer Meeting there is increased activity on the training tracks at Wingatui. There must have been somewhere in the vicinity of 50 horses working on Saturday morning, the great majority getting through good useful work. Violenta is being worked over a distance in the hope that she will stay on better than in the past. One of her main missions during the holidays will be the Bray Memorial at Waikouaiti on New Year's Day. Half Note, who has been at the stud during the season, is again in work. She is taking a lot of knocking into shape, and at present her prospects do not seem hopeful. J Cotter is starting to increase the tasks allotted his two geldings by Irish Lancer. One is out of Lynwood and the other from Meitui. The latter youngster is one of the biggest horses in training at Wingatui. So far a name has not been claimed, but his stablemate will be known as. Gay Lancer. Great Pal was back on the tracks on Saturday and is bearing a healthy appearance. F. Shaw's two-year-old by Nightmarch from Palantua is showing, speed, and on Saturday morning he shaped particularly well with Janefield over three furlongs. A gelding by Roy den from Effozel, who will race as My Mistake, is ari stablemate of Nightwings. He shapes! pleasingly in his work but is inclined to be highly strung. Strip is in fine condition in view of a preparation for the holiday meet* ings, at which he should add to his laurels.
