TEACHERS' SUMMER SCHOOL
TO BE HELD IN NAPIER
After a lapse of three years, the Teachers' Summer School is to be revived, and one will be held in Napier from January 9 to 18 nex:. The last one, in 1936, was held in New Plymouth. The Napier Boys' High School will be used to accommodate those attending the meetings. Both Napier itself and the surrounding country offer many attractions, and it is expected that the summer school will be largely attended. The opening address is to be given by Sir Apirana Ngata and the general line of study will focus on contemporary literature, natural science, music education, recreation, and sociology.
The staff of lecturers and the topics for discussion are as follows —Dr. A. K. Bott, Ph.D. (U.S. A.), Cortland Training College, U.S.A., "An Interpretation of U.S.A." Mr. J. W .Shaw, M.A, Auckland Training College, "Post-war Drama and Literature." Mr. H. C. Luscombe. 8.A., Mus.Bac, Cambridge, "Musical Appreciation." Mr. K. C. Reid, Auckland Training College, "Folk Dancing." Dr. J. H. Murdoch, M.A., Ph.D. (Lond.), M.Com., "Experimental Education and its Relation to School Organisation and Methods." A series of lectures covering presentday trends in education will be given, one each by the following, who have recently investigated education overseas:—Mr. D. M. Rae, M.A.. "English Experiments in Education." Mr. H. C. D. Somerset, M.A., "Adult Education and the Community." Miss M. V. Kennedy, M.A., "A Genevian Experiment in Education." Mr. J. F. Wells, 8.A., "The Intermediate School Idea Overseas."
Already 80 enrolments have been received from teachers wishing to attend the school, and it is expected that the total will be between 90 and 100.
