SHALE OIL
AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPMENT
SYDNEY, December 6.
A report on the shale oil industry in New South Wales, tabled in the Legislative Assembly today by the Premier. Mr. B. S. B. Stevens, deals with developments at Newnes field, near Lithgow, which were recently revived with Government assistance.
The report states that by the end of 1939 about 700 tons of oil and shale will be mined daily, while during 1940 it is expected that 170,000 tons of shale will be produced, with a yield of 180 tons of fuel oil and 15,000 gallons of petrol each working day.
