CLYDE QUAY SCHOOL

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

Arrangements for celebrating the conclusion of the first fifty years of existence of the Clyde Quay School, Wellington, are well forward, and the committee of the Ex-pupils' Association is receiving encouraging support from many old scholars. This is particularly the case among those who attended the school in its earlier years, but the interest of those who attended in later years is now becoming manifest, and indications point to a highly successful series*, of gatherings on December 16, 17, and 18.

The first gathering, will be a picnic sports meeting for present pupils on the Pirie Street Reserve at 2 p.m. on December 16, and this will be followed by a reunion of ex-pupils at the school, Elizabeth Street, on December 17, at 2 p.m. Members of the committee will be in attendance from 1.30 p.m. to issue identity cards and jubilee badges, and it is hoped that those attending will arrive early and avoid congestion. In the evening the Oddfellows' Hall, which adjoins the site of the old school, has been, engaged for a social and dance, the lodge room upstairs being reserved for non-dancers.

On the afternoon of Sunday, December 18, a thanksgiving service is to be held in the De Luxe Theatre, and the oi-der of service indicates that this will be both dignified and impressive and serve as a fitting conclusion to' the celebrations.

This service is being arranged by the ministers who conduct the weekly services at the school, assisted by several old pupils. Vocal items will be contributed by Miss Marjorie Clifford and Mr. H. F. Wood, with Mr. R. Maddams at the Wurlitzer organ.

At the conclusion of the celebrations it is the hope of the committee that a substantial sum will be available to provide at the school a permanent memorial to the late Mr. W. T. Grundy, who was headmaster for the first 29 years of the school's life.
