POPULAR GUIDER
CANTERBURY LEADER
RETIRES
Miss Bromley Cocks, who for 15 years has been connected with the Girl Guide movement and for many years has been provincial commissioner for Canterbury, is retiring from that position, states the "Press." The announcement of her retirement has caused great regret in Guide circles throughout the province, and to mark their appreciation of her long and devoted service in their regard, the Guides and Brownies of Canterbury entertained Miss Cocks at a campfire party on Saturday night.
Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Livingstone lent a paddock near their home in Riccarton for the gathering, which was attended by more than 200 Guides and Brownies, including representatives from country districts. Miss Cocks received many telegrams bearing good wishes from companies and packs in distant parts of the province who were unable to attend. Miss Mary Morten, a district commissioner, expressed ap-
preciation of Miss Cocks's great interest in all the Guides. The movement in Canterbury owed much to her prudence and enthusiasm.
On behalf of all the Guides and Brownies of Canterbury, Miss Connie Donaldson and Miss Gladys Goode presented Miss Cocks with a rug, a leather writing case, and a fountain pen and pencil, and hoped that she would continue her kindly interest in the Guides.
In gratefully acknowledging the gifts, Miss Cocks said she would never lose interest in the welfare of the Guides, and she urged all present to live up to the ideals of the founders of Guiding.
