LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
ISLAND BAY-BERHAMPORE
There was a large and enthusiasti* attendance at the final meeting for the year of the Island Bay-Beiiiampore branch of the League of Mothers. This took the form of "Members' Day." when a special committee took charge for the afternoon. The acting president, Mrs. Vare, presented the president, Mrs. Janson, with a bouquet of roses, and sprays of sweet peas and roses to all members of the committee;, in appreciation of their services during the year. Stands of greenery, and bowls of roses, sweet peas, and rhododendrons made a decorative setting for the stage.
An attractive programme was presented. Mrs. Thomas contributed two songs; musical monologues were presented by Miss Gorrie and little Suzanne Burns; a song and dance ay little Valeric Jackman; and an amusing play-reading entitled "A Marriage Has Been Disarranged," was presented by Mesdames Jessen, Davies, Wakelin, Hall, Bennie, Brooker, and Misses Bowen and Stevens. Shoulder sprays were presented to all the entertainers, and suitable gifts to the small performers!. In keeping with the Christmas spirit, members joined in singing carols, which had been specially printed for the occasion.
The singing of the National Anthem, and the serving of afternoon tea brought an enjoyable meeting to a close. The children of the crecne were given ice creams, sweets, and balloons. . ■ .
