SUPERINTENDENT MCGRATH

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The death occurred last evening of Mr. J. A. McGrath, former Superintendent of Police, in his 81st year. Mr.

McGrath was a native of Wexford, Ireland, and came to New Zealand in 1877. He took up service in the armed constabulary and was one of the few survivors of the force which took part in the raid on Parihaka. In 1882 ho transferred from the armed constabulary to the detective department. He was promoted to the position of Superintendent at Dunedin in 1919, which position he filled until his retirement in.
