AN UNPROFITABLE DAY

HASTINGS, This Day

Taking small silver bets on Saturday last when the Otaki races were j being held proved an unprofitable business for James David Dunn. He appeared before the Magistrate, Mr. J. Miller, this morning, and was fined £20 and costs. He pleaded guilty to a charge of keeping a dwelling as a | common gaming-house. When the police visited the place it was found that nineteen bets had been taken, totalling £3 17s. ( Mr. M. McKinnon, a seaman, 3 Col-j lins Terxace, fell in Lambton Quay at 5.15 p.m. yesterday, and suffered concussion. The Free Ambulance took him to hospital. ;
