FURTHER OPPRESSION
JEWS IN GERMANY
WORSE THAN MIDDLE AGES
(Received December 6, 10 a.m.)
BERLIN, December 5,
The decrees of December 3 are to be the forerunners of similar decrees to apply throughout Germany. They will relegate Jews in Berlin to a more oppressive ghetto than that of the Middle Ages. Whereas then they enjoyed freedom of movement, except that a curfew was enforced, now they will be permanently restricted to a limited quarter and must not enter the section of the Wilhelmstrasse containing the Government offices, nor the Unter den Linden. The ban is being extended to include most of the Berlin Jews living outside the ghetto. They have been officially advised to move to a prescribed area in which lie Berlin's most dismal streets. An order is being issued requiring Jews to wear prominently a yellow rosette as a racial symbol. (Independent Cable Service.) (Received December 6, 10.15 a.m.) BERLIN, December 5. Jews who will be forced to live in a number of ghetto districts in various cities will be deprived of ordinary living facilities. In addition to telephones and radio sets, they may be deprived of electricity and individual mail service. The decrees eliminate Jews from ownership of houses and property and agricultural and forest lands, which will be summarily sold. Jews are also excluded from the acquisition of property rights, and must place their securities in special safes in the banks. They must not acquire gold or jewellery, but the process of dispossession, in order to avoid disorganisation, will extend over several months.
