Barometer, 9 a.m., 29.468 in, 995.5 millibars; noon, 29.501 in, 099 millibars. SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS. During the weekend a series of deep depressions has been crossing the Dominion. The main centre of low pressure is located this morning in the vicinity of Poverty Bay, but further depressions are still approaching across the south Tasman Sea. On Saturday wind* were mainly between north-west and southwest, but by yesterday they had become more generally south-westerly or southerly. Although now light in the southern <. half of the* South Island, wind forces have: been strong in many places, and last night and this morning there were gales In parts of Taranaki and eastern, districts. Wellington experiencing one of the most severe southerly storms in record. Over most of the- country the weather on Saturday . was fair, but rain Commenced In the afternoon, In the souh and had become general yesterday. There were many heavy falls, especially ia' eastern districts. Floods occurred in Otago and South Canterbury, having been very serious in Dunedin. Conditions have since improved in the. One third offender for drunkenness, 'James Daley, a seaman, was convicted and fined 30s, in default three, days' 'imprisonment, by, Mr. W. H. Coy, J.P.. in the Mount Cook Police Court today. iOne first offender was convicted and fined ss, and another convicted and discharged. Bucket pumps were used to extinguish a" small fire 'which broke out at 72 Cambridge Terrace at 3.14 p.m. on I Saturday. Slight damage was done to the contents of a front bed-sitting-room. The owner and occupier of the premises is Mrs. A. Merry.
