WEIGHT-LIFTING

EXHIBITION AT SPORTS

An interesting demonstration of weight-lifting was given at the sports meeting at Hataitai Park on Saturday afternoon.

The demonstration began with a match between C. McLennan, 9st 81b, and R. Minnis, lOst 71b. In the first lift, the military press, McLennan was ahead with 1451b against Minnis, with 1351b. Minnis, in the second, the twohands snatch, succeeded with 1301b, as against McLennan, with 1251b. At this stage McLennan had a lead of 51b, but in the third lift, the two-hands clean and jerk, Minnis succeeded with a fine effort of 1701b, as against McLennari's 1601b. Thus Minnis won the contest with a total of 4351b. McLennan's total was 4301b.

I. Cochrane, present Wellington light-heavyweight champion, gave a demonstration, succeeding with 1601b in the press, 1751b in the snatch, and 2251b in the jerk. Cochrane showed good style and was very unfortunate to fail in the jerk with 2351b.

Mr. K. R. Mitchell, hon. secretary of the New Zealand Weight Lifters' Association, was the referee.
