HAPPY CHRISTMAS PARTY

The members and friends of the English-speaking Union spent a very delightful time in the union's pleasant room, Nathan's Buildings, on Saturday evening, when the annual Christmas party took place.

The decor was suitable and charming. Garlands of bright red were suspended from the windows to the Christmas tree, which made a good central point. "Maytime" garlands of pink and green festooned the ceiling, and were caught at intervals by bright opened Japanese umbrellas covered with mauve and pink artificial flowers. Clusters of balloons added to the gay effect, and bowls of rhododendrons were effectively placed about the large room. Red and green and silver tinsel made the tree a blaze of light, and the guests added to the effect of gaiety by wearing paper hats.

Tall golden lilies were effectively arranged in the entrance hall, and the Union Jack and Stars and Stripes held places of honour. The creed was read by Mrs. E. D. Good, hostess for the party, and a good and amusing programme was presented. Songs were given by Mrs. W. Duncan and Mrs. Pengelley, with Mrs. Ramsay accompanying, and recitations by Miss Nannestad. An amusing sketch, "Irene Obliges," was presented by Miss Irene Spidy, Miss Patricia Greenfield-Brown, and Mr. Stanley Vinsen, the producer being Mr. John Roberts. Other amusements consisted of competitions, one of which led to the selection of a gift from the Christmas tree. Supper vas served, and dancing followed, .laking a delightful Christmas party.

The committee consisted of Meslames A. Duncan, A. Burnard, W. fisher, K. Preston, and R. Burton. Mrs. Oakley arranged the decorations, Miss Nannestad was in charge of the programme, and Mrs. Vinsen supervised the supper.
