VOICE OF THE CHURCHES

It was unusual to hear in a church a plea made for safety on the roads, j but that it was right and fitting was stressed at St. Michael's, Kelburn, last evening by the vicar, the Rev. G. McKenzie, when he said that God was concerned in the spiritual, mental, and physical affairs of men and therefore it was right for the churches to support publicly such a move as "Safety Week." He said that the record of mishaps was alarming, when it was learnt that every five days there were several fatalities and a number of serious accidents. And a sad feature was the fact that a large proportion were children under fifteen. It was right for the churches to raise their voice in such a serious matter, for they believed strongly in the dignity of human life and the need for strong action to prevent such a grievous toll on the roads. He also reminded his hearers that accidents were due largely to a want of fairness and ordinary common courtesy on the part of the users of the roads.
