"DIFFICULT TIMES AHEAD"
(Special to me "Evening rost.") PALMERSTON N., This Day.
"In these days of uncertainty it is very difficult to forecast the trend of markets for the coming season, but I think it is generally agreed tjiat we might expect more difficult times ahead," stated Mr. T. Currie, chairman of directors, in an address at the annual meeting of shareholders of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd.,'yesterday. "Especially will this be so unless the present policy of self-sufficiency pursued by nearly every nation is abandoned and free trade throughout the world encouraged. Internal arrangements, such as price and wage fixation, might give temporary relief and encourage a false sense of security, but until more tolerance and less selfishness is in evidence, with consequent freer exchange of all commodities, we cannot expect to enjoy that feeling of well-being and security that* is so much desired. In the meantime it behoves all producers to follow in the steps of the pioneers of our country who made prosperity possible, by increasing the quantity and quality of production by hard work, economy, self-reliance, and co-operation."
