(Independent Cable Sorvfce.)
(Received December 2, 2 p.m.)
BUCHAREST, December 1
The Iron Guards set fire to ten houses and workshops at Czernowitz. Two were arrested. The Government organ "Romania" indicates that the shooting of the former Iron Guard leader, M. Zelea Codreanu, was the culmination of a purge conducted by the political police throughout the country for several weeks. "This painful operation was necessary," it said, "in view of the revived terror of the former Iron Guards which became a constant threat to public order." M. Codreanu's wife refuses to. believe that he is dead.
