CANCER TREATMENT
FACILITIES IN BRITAIN

A Bill to make further provision for the treatment of cancer was read a first time in the House of Commons today.
The main purpose of the Bill, which gives effect to plans announced by the Government in the-King's Speech, is to establish a cancer service under which in every part of the country modern facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer will be available.
The Bill places the obligation on major local authorities to consult with the Radium Commission, bodies representing voluntary hospitals, and the local medical profession to prepare and submit for approval to the Minister arrangements for securing facilities for the treatment of-^cancer adequate for the needs of the areas concerned.
One clause in the Bill prohibits advertisement of offers to cure cancer and advertisements referring to articles in terms calculated to lead to their use in the treatment of cancer.
