DUTY OF CYCLISTS
(Special to the 'Evening Post.")
MASTERTON, This Day,
The duly of cyclists in seeing that their bicycles complied with the regulations was emphasised by Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Masterton Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, during the hearing of a case arising out of a cyclist being run down by a car at night. Mr. Lawry said there were too many rear mudguards on bicycles which the cyclist failed to keep a clear white. He was of the opinion that it would be a good idea if it were required that the mudguards should be periodically painted white, and maintained that a white rear mudguard enabled a motorist to pick up a cyclist much more readily than a reflector. It was very--difficult for motorists to see cyclists on a black bicycle on a black length of road when the road was. wet. Cyclists should do everything they could to make themselves more visible.
