NEW BRIGHTON TROTS

SUMMER CARNIVAL

KING'S PLAY WELL PLACED

(By "Ariki Toa.")

An added attraction at the New Brighton Trotting Club's Summer Meeting tomorrow will be an attempt on the mile grass record by Lawn Derby. At present the best figures are credited to Nervie's Last, who registered 2min 4sec at Epsom last month. Providing the conditions are in reasonably good order Lawn Derby should experience little trouble in breaking the present record. The club has shown splendid initiative in tightening up the class of the Mace Memorial, and the 4.27 limit has attracted most of the pacers that contested the New Zealand Trotting Cup last month. The form shown at Addington revealed King's Play as back to his best again, and he should take a lot of beating from 24yds. He is a fine stayer, and he is not likely to be troubled by the distance. In finishing third on the final day of the recent Addington Meeting he registered 4min 15sec, and he appeals strongly off 4min 25sec tomorrow. THE LIMIT BRIGADE. Of the four on the limit the best prospects may be held by Gallant I Knight, who, after winning at Addington, revealed a fine turn of speed to be placed fourth against the best class on the following day. He has previously displayed ability on a grass track, and in his present form he should assure patrons of a fast-run race. Renown's Best has the ability, but she is ] not reliable at the start and in three outings at Forbury failed to go away smartly. War Buoy failed to do as well as expected at the Cup Meeting, but the racing would probably improve him, and for that reason alone he has to be respected. Ironside is a proved pacer over the distance, but the race has to be run to suit Plutus. Lucky Jack and Lawn Derby are set most difficult tasks from the back marks, and they will probably be at top all the way with no chance of a breather. An instance of how hard it is to win from the back mark was Lucky Jack in the New Zealand Trotting Cup, for on that occasion he paced the two miles from post to post in 4min 12sec and then had to be content with second place. FORM AND CARD. The minor events have all filled exceptionally well, and, taken all round, a feast of light-harness racing should be witnessed. CHANCES OF BLUE LOGAN

'Blue Logan created a fine impression when he won the Whiteleigh Handicap, two miles, at Addington last month, and he should enjoy a most successful run from his present loose mark. On that occasion he was not required to do his best at any stage, and he really outclassed the opposition. He is engaged at New Brighton tomorrow, being down to give away 12yds in the Saltaire Handicap. The logical favourtie for the event is Royal Romance, but she is apt to make a mistake at any part, and Blue Logan's solidness should take him a long way towards success. He has won at his only two appearances since joining J. Benrns's stable.

A BRIGHT FUTURE

A very high opinion is held in the north of the novice pacer Lynn Rey, and he is confidently expected to prove an early winner. He has done comparatively little racing, but his showing at the Auckland Meeting last month was suggestive of better things to come, and no notice need be taken of the defeat.

Lynn Rey is a half-brother by Rey de Oro to Lynnworthy, who gave promise of developing into one of Auckland's best pacers a couple of seasons ago but unfortunately dropped dead after giving two brilliant displays at Hutt Park. Lynn Rey is owned by that popular sportsman Mr. E. H. Cucksey, and trained at Cambridge by G. T. Mitchell.

WAIKATO MEETING

CARD FOR TOMORROW

The Waikato Trotting Club's Spring Meeting will be held at Claudelands tomorrow, and, judging by the strength of the fields, some splendid racing should be provided. More than average interest will centre in the fixture, as it will be one of the last opportunities trainers will have of giving their charges a race before the Auckland Summer Meeting. Betting will be on the win-and-place system, and the following may be fancied:— Introductory Handicap. — Aurumar, Great Surprise, Llanvabon. Eureka Handicap.—Lynn Rey, Resistance - Kewpie's Jewel bracket, Parishioner. Waikato Handicap.—Bexley GirlSandusky bracket, Kewpie's King. Tamahere Handicap. — Parauri, Uenuku, Whitstqne. TROTTING BREVITIES

Entries for the Wairarapa Trotting Club's Summer Meeting close at 8 p.m. on Friday next.

King's Play is particularly well placed on 24yds in the Mace Memorial at New Brighton tomorrow, and a repetition of his form at Addington would see him taking a lot of beat ing. S. A. Eagan has a fine type of novice trotter by Maxegin in work at Hutt Park, and judging by his displays in training he should have a bright future.

Parauri has not met with the best of luck in his races in the north recently, but he has an excellent chance of making amends in the Tamahere Handicap at the Waikato Meeting. Waikari Jack shaped very encouragingly to finish second at Ashburton last Saturday, and he is likely to be one of the favourites in the Wainoni Handicap at New Brighton. He is a smart beginner, and this will be a lot in his favour.

Eighteen Carat, previously trained by S. A. Edwards at Addington, is now under the care of C. M. Morrison at Epsom, and he will have his first start in his new colours in the Stewards' Handicap at Waikato. He has been working well recently. Acora is being allotted plenty of judicious work at Hutt Park in view of the approaching Wairarapa Meeting, and her progress suggests that she has improved with the racing she had last month.

The promising three-year-old Nelson Eddy did not meet with the best of luck in his race at Ashburton last week, but a smart beginning would see him in the picture in the Wainoni Handicap at New Brighton.

Star Pronto is being kept up to the collar at Epsom, and his next appearance will probably be in the open sprint at Waikato tomorrow. He is being given a special preparation for the Auckland Trotting Cup. , Kewpie's progeny have been much in the limelight recently, and it is interesting to note that she is being sent to the Rey de* Oro horse Gaillard this season.

Unless present intentions are changed, Biworthy will visit Auckland during the holidays, and he is to be entered for the better-class unhoppled events. He is a most consistent trotter who should pay expenses.
