BILLIARDS TOURNAMENT
The final of the Wellington small table handicap championship was contested last night at Messrs. Billiards Limited's showrooms. Two semi-finals preceded this game, and the results were as follows:—W. Keech (owe 25) beat J. Berry (rec. 90), 225-208; A. Armstrong (owe 200) beat P. G. Taylor (rec. 60), 400-383.
In the final of 600 up, Keech, with a start of 263, maintained his lead till past half-way mark, when Armstrong produced a string of very useful breaks, protainent among which was a magnificent 131. These efforts enabled him to overtake and pass his opponent and continue to 600 with Keech at 483.
This tournament is Armstrong's fourth attempt, and though he has always previously reached the final, this is the first .occasion he has met with success. The silver cup and also a miniature, which is to be retained, were presented to the winner by the manager of Billiards Limited. Messrs. Keech and Berry were presented with cues for being runners-up and highest breaks computed on handicap respectively. The finals were umpired v and controlled by Mr. J. Meldrum.
