THE MYSTERIOUS VOICE

The heroine in "Mr. Zero." a new novel by Patricia Wentworth (published by Hodder and Stoughton), was more beautiful than wise. Disobeying her husband, she gambled at cards and lost more money than she could possibly raise without telling her husband. But a mysterious voice at the other end of the telephone told her how she could earn enough money to pay her losses. She accepted the bargain made with .the mystery man (Mr. Zero) and earned the mpney. But in the process important State papers were lost, in addition to several reputations. Mystery, romance, politics, and murder are all mixed in generous proportions as the tale proceeds, and it is not until the last few pages are reached that the reader is acquainted with the upshot of the whole affair.
