UP-TO-DATE INN NAMES
TJ_e naming of a new inn at Rain ham "The Belisha Beacon" is a reminder of the normal conservatism oi the modern innkeeper, says the "Daily Telegraph and Morning Post." Of all the inns which have received licences since the war, the number which bear a specifically modern name is insig- . nificant. Chatham, incidentally, has at least one other modern inn name — "The Ordinary Fellow," named, in memory of King George V. The Maure-, tania" at Bristol, the "Daylight Inn" jat Pelt's Wood, and the "Master Robert" at Hounslow are three other public houses with contemporary names. The l first explains itself, the second is namct I after the Daylight Saving Act, and th third after a Grand National winner. ,
