AUXILIARY

"Homewood," the bcaulU.ii Tzarori residence of Mr. and Mrs. B. Suther-

land, which has been the scene of so many parties in aid of charity, -was filled with people yesterday afternoon when a musicale was held by the ladies' auxiliary of the Wellington Free Ambulance. As on the previous occasion, a few months ago, when Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland lent their home for this purpose the afternoon was thoroughly wet and it says a lot for the attractions of "Homewood" and the entertainment offered that so many people were willing to brave the elements in order to be present. Mr. H. F. Wood arranged the programme, which included songs by himself, Mr. Wilfred Andrews, Mrs. H. Ainslie, and Mrs. T. O. Goodwin, ac» companied by Mr. Reg Maddams, and elocutionary items by Miss Annette

Sloan. At the conclusion of the performance the president of the auxiliary, Lady Norwood, thanked all who had helped to make the function, so successful, especially mentioning the hostess.

There were glorious flowers everywhere, the huge bowls of pink rhododendrons in the hall and the many bowls of cyclamen in the other reception rooms being especially lovely. There were charming views of the tulip beds and the ferneries to be seen through the windows and after tea had been served most of the guests wandered through ferny covered ways to the glass house to see the wonderful display of cyclamen and cinerarias.

Tea was served by many willing helpers and the long table in the din-ing-room was laden with home-made delicacies. '.

"Le Groupe Francais" held another of its enjoyable club evenings at the Y.W.C.A. last Wednesday. The evening began with the singing of the ''Marseillaise," after which all present took part in French songs and games and a French proverb competition. A play, "'llomain Kalbris Chez les Saltimbanques," by Hector Malot, was then read by the members, followed by more songs and games. Supper concluded a most enjoyable evening. Among those present were Madame Finlayson and Misses V. Vercoe, J. Turnpenny, M. Wallace, J. Isaacs, P. Bills, D. White, J. Edwards, M. Easther. P. Connor, and B. Butler.
