TRAINS DELAYED
ENGINE FOULS WIRES
REPAIR MAN INJURED
The fouling by the incoming Napier j mail train of an overhead wire on the line between the two tunnels just outside of Wellington caused delays to trains in and out of Wellington yesterday afternoon. The mishap occurred shortly after 4.30 p.m.
Through a defect in the supporting gear, the overhead .wire for the future use of elecric trains sagged near the Ngahauranga Gorge overbridge between the two tunnels. The driver of the Napier express saw the wire but was unable to stop the train before the engine fouled it, bringing down more of the overhead gear.
Repair work was speedly begun, but was delayed for a while when H. Scott, of 177 Ohiro Road, a line erecter, fell from a ladder and suffered scalp wounds and concussion. He was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance.
By 6.10 p.m. the line was clear again. The longest delay was that of the train which normally would have left for Paekakariki at 4 p.m It did not get away until after 6.15. Three inward trains, including the Napier express, were delayed for much shorter spaces of time and other outgoing trains were also affected. The Limited left on time.
