LIFE-SAVING
WORSER BAY CLUB
A creditable position, both financially and as regards membership, is shown in the twenty-eighth annual 'report and balance-sheet of the Worser Bay, Swimming and Life-saving Club. I_4 carrying forward a balance of "8s 5d for the season's activities as revealed by the receipts and payments account, the financial position of the club is a very creditable one—having particular regard to its limited sources of revenue. The balance,
although a comparatively small one, . ds very satisfactory, in view of the fact that expenses were considerably heavier than in the previous season, the major expense being that of re? painting and extensively repairing the club house. The .sum expended repre- '-■ sented 44 per cent, of income derived from subscriptions. ' The report records a one hundred "-per cent, increase in the club's membership. Last year the membership was 92; this year it has attained the total of 185, comprising 72 seniors, 105 'j-qniors, and eight life members. The committee feels proud of this result and heartily congratulates all mem?:hers on this achievement. * • - T^ite^ club-races during: the, season 'ware- again well? supported. Dates ' iahd times? of races *were adhered to more strictly than has previously been '-the case, due to the keenness displayed by the club officials and members. The committee looks for greater activity in this sphere, as it is only by participating in such activities that can be regarded as useful club members. The "Learn to Swim Week" inaugurated by the New Zealand federation of Swimming was well supported by the club, and it was pleasing to note the enthusiasm of children and parents of the Seatoun .and Miramar districts. Six club members qualified for the Royal Lifesaving Society's bronze medallion. A team from the club patrolled - Titahi Bay beach on its appointed day, • - and later in the season a contingent Irom the club visited the same beach for the Surf Association's field day, competing for the Durrant Memorial Shield, AY junior four-man team secured first place in a run-out competition and the athletic events were keenly contested, several placings being gained. This day was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended, and in view of its success the committee expresses the hope that this form of competition will induce even more members to compete. The club was •represented at all the District Asso- . ciatioh's competitions, a particularly ■ successful day being that occasion on •which the Wellington championships were held on our beach. A four-man team was entered for the New Zealand surf championships L at New Brighton. Unfortunately, one member was unable to make the trip at the last minute, and as no substitute was then available, only two members represented the club at the meeting, these members competing, at their .own expense, for the Cambrian ; Shield. v.- The annual meeting is to be held in the clubhouse on Thursday evening,
