HERE AND THERE
Farevvell Presentation. Yesterday afternoon at the General Post Office a large number of officers met to bid farewell to Miss K. A. Jacobs, a shorthand writer on the staff of the Director-General's office of the General Post Office, who has retired on superannuation. Mr. P. N. Cryer made a presentation to Miss Jacobs on behalf of the staff of a travelling rug, a dressing case, and other articles. Ho stated that Miss Jacobs instilled in others a high sense of duty, and the standard she set herself was maintained right throughout her official career. A letter was read from the DirectorGeneral conveying good wishes to Miss Jacobs and setting out the excellence of her services during her career. Mr. E. J. Smith replied on behalf cf Miss Jacobs. Magic Casements. Those who realise the value of entertainments specially designed for children should not miss the second production of the play "Magic Casements," which has been specially written by a Wellington girl, Miss Jean Mather, M.A. It is being produced by Madame Rosin a Bligh, who has had a great deal of experience in such work, and has been very successful. The play will be given at the Concert Chamber tomorrow afternoon at quarter past two, and introduces all kinds of people speciall interesting to children —fairies, ballets, and pretty scenery. The ballets have been well trained by some of the leading teachers in Wellington, and many charming effects will be introduced. Red Cross "Mystery" Evening. The Red Cross Voluntary Aid Detachment held a very enjoyable "mystery" evening in the Red Cross Rooms, Dixon Street, recently. A number of novelty items were presented which proved very popular, and a delightful home-made supper was served. Competitions were won by Misses A. Brown and J, Glendinning. The hosteseses were Mrs. L. Atkinson, Misses D. Cooper, E. Robertshaw, and Pearl Orr. Technical College Parents' Association. The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Wellington Technical College Parents' Association met in the tennis pavilion yesterday. There was a good attendance. A programme was presented by the following pupils of the College:—Pat Hilton (songs and recitations), Margaret Wainwright and Kathleen Robinson (recitations), Mrs. Hilton being the accompanist. A competition was won by Mrs. Little. The president, Mrs. M. Gandar welcomed the parents and asked the guests each to bring a Crien.' 1 to the next meeting. Afternoon tea was served.
