MRS. STEWART AT KELBURN

Speaking in the Training College Hall, Kelburn, on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. C. Stewart, Labour candidate for Wellington West, said she could say that all her ideals were embodied in the policy of the Labour Party. The good that the Labour Government had done was apparent to all. Mrs. Stewart touched on the provision of homes for those with small means, the four-unit houses of three rooms being only 14s 6d per week. Slie also mentioned that State Advances loans to those wishing to own their own homes had increased considerably since Labour came into power.

Of the Social Security Act Mrs. Stewart said she thought it was nothing short of amazing that for another fourpence in the £ sickness pay, free medical attention, and hospital service would be available, as well as superannuation in old age. Asked if the cost of living in Australia was not very much higher than in New Zealand, Mrs. Stewart replied hi the affirmative and added, "and there is no Labour Government there."

A vote of confidence in the speaker and in the Labour Government, moved by Mrs. J. M. Case and seconded by Mrs. L. R: Burns, was carried unanimously.
