The motor vessel Kapiti, which has been sold to the Northern Steamship Company, and will in future have Auckland as headquarters. The Kapiti, one of the best known of the small coastal ships trading out of Wellington, was built in 1902. Eight years ago her steam engine and boiler were removed and replaced by a Diesel oil engine.

This Canadian Pacific express was wrecked last month when it plunged sixty feel into a gorge through which the River Portneuf runs, near Quebec, as a result of a bridge being washed away by floods. The driver and the fireman were both killed and a number of passengers were injured.
