LATE MR GRUNDY

FUNERAL AT KARORI

LARGE ATTENDANCE

Many former pupils of the late Mr. W. T. Grundy, one of New Zealand's greatest headmasters, were present at the funeral service in the Crematorium, Karori Cemetery, yesterday afternoon. At one time he was the headmaster of ,the Masterton School, from which he was transferred as headmaster to the Clyde Quay School, Wellington, where he remained for over 27 years and endeared himself to the thousands of pupils who in that time came under his control and influence. The affection held for him was reflected by the large attendance at the funeral..

Mr. Grundy's body was brought from Masterton, and when the hearse arrived old boys; of the Clyde Quay School flanked the pathway to the Crematorium chapel.

Paying tribute to the life of Mr. Grundy, the Rev. N. F. E. Robertshawe said that they had gathered to see the passing from this world of a great man whose example and teaching no doubt had helped many present to mould their lives and characters. His life was at once a lesson and an ideal. Members of the teaching profession would do well to live up to that ideal, and to value the virtues of personal example and manners, manners particularly, as they helped so much to form a correct attitude towards life. They had to thank God for having given them a man of such character.

The chief mourners were Mr. George Lamb (son-in-law), Mr. S. G- Lamb (grandson), Dr. N. A. Foden (nephew), Mr. E. Foden ((nephew), and Mr. J. P. Perry, of Alfredton. The pall-bearers were Dr, D. Phillips (chairman of the Clyde Quay School Committee), Messrs. A. R. Hislop, W. lorns, and Frank Wilson (ex-pupils of Clyde Quay School).
