"The Labour Government has the power, and wil lexercise the power, to see that only fair prices are charged," said Mr. C. H. Chapman, Labour candidate for Wellington North, speaking at St. Peter's Hall, Ghuznee Street, last evening: "At the same time one must recognise that as wages increase and costs of production increase, there is a reasonable excuse in many instances for some increase. But who is going to grumble so long as they* have the wherewithal to buy what they want?" (Applause.) "Are you* better oft now or worse than you were between 1931 and 1935?"

"There is no 'doubt that the Labour Government, by its policy, has spread prosperity throughout New Zealand in a manner in which it has never previously been spread," he said.
