SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP

Some good exhibitions of snooker were witnessed at Billiards Limited's ™S Au gh}> when the second round of the Wellington provincial ama- \ euL championship •-wa. continued. Mvl J. Meldrum was referee. Keen interest was shown in the game between J. Lee (Victory) and D. Phillips ( Paramount), Phillips?winning narrowly after a keen contest. The score was 54-48 in Phillips's favour after the first game. This gap was not greatly extended till towards the final stages, when Phillips enjoyed a favourable run and sank some of the colours, 'leaving Lee in need of two snookers and both remaining balls to win. Lee failed narrowly several times in difficult shots. Phillips collected the two remaining balls and the final score in his favour was 124-110.

Excellent potting was the feature of the game between A. Smethurst (Wellington Working Men's Club) arid H. Looner (Victory). The first game yielded only a four-point advantage to Smethurst. After leading early in the second game Looner lost his advantage, but kept close thereafter. With only^a few colours* left the position was doubtful; but Smethurst eventually secured position on the remaining balls, and ran out to a 1(37-91 advantage. L. Moffat- (St. George) beat T. Garfa ett (Windsor) in the last match. Although the score favoured Moffa't by only 47-38 in the first game, he proved capable of extending his lead as the second session progressed and eventually won 126-75. :,

Tonight at 7 o'clock A. Thomas (Victory) will meet R. Stuart (Petone Working Men's Club); at 8 o'clock W. F. Donnelley (Wellington Working Men's Club) will meet H. M. Blundell (Commercial Travellers), - and at 9 o'clock F. Wells (G.P.O; Social and Literary Club) will meet D. Phillips (Paramount).
