BITTER CONTEMPT IN PRESS

The newspapers in Warsaw unanimously declare that further reliance on the Western Powers is meaningless, j and urge the speeding-up of rearma-j ment in order to enable Poland to as-! sume the role of a big Power. Bitter contempt for France and to a certain extent for Britain is not hidden in the official newspapers, which! make play with the term "western illusionists." Simultaneously admira-1 tion mingled with fear is expressed for j Germany. i There are jibes..at the "queue of foreign Ambassadors outside the Foreign Office with belated mediation advice" obviously chiefly directed against the British and French. ,
The Warsaw correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" reveals that the Polish Foreign Minister, Colonel Beck, refused to see the British Ambassador, Sir Howard Kennard, on October 1 regarding the ultimatum to Czechoslovakia, instructing an official to tell Sir Howard that intervention was untimely and unwanted.
