SUNDAY PROPAGANDA

Sir,—Prior to the inauguration of the Commercial Broadcasting Service, it was a pleasure to listen to the Friendly Road's Sunday evening sessions and in particular to the portion of the programme always conducted by Mr. Scrimgeour. The ordinary listener in those days must have been impressed with his apparent sincerity and desire to assist the less fortunate members of our community.

However, of recent months there has been a noticeable alteration in his expressed views. One cannot accept without reserve his statements that politics, or leanings towards one political party, play no part in his life, nor are his broadcast' Utterances coloured with any such views. It is impossible to accept such statements when we have our normal Sunday evening radio entertainment disturbed by election addresses showing political bias. Most home lovers are becoming heartily sick and tired of the constant barrage of promises, denials, and assertions pouring forth from the main radio stations, but to find the other stations now interrupting our usual Sunday evening's pleasure with political propaganda is an abuse of our rights as listeners and taxpayers. Taking into consideration that Mr. Scrimgeour is controller of and principal speaker for the Commercial Broadcasting Service, one is forced to the opinion that he hag taken, ad vantage of his public position to force upon us distasteful election propaganda on the Sabbath. —I am, etc.,
