RHODES SCHOLARS DATE OF SELECTION
PROBABLY NOVEMBER 25
Tentatively, November 25 is the date for the meeting at Government House, Wellington, of the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee for the purpose of selecting two New Zealand Rhodes Scholars to go into residence at Oxford University next year. It is considered highly likely that this date will be adhered to.
Each of the, four university colleges comprising the University of New Zealand has made two nominations. They are as follows: —
Auckland: Messrs. Darcy Walker and William Allan Pyatt.
Victoria College, Wellington: Messrs. I. E. Berendsen and R. L. Meek.
Canterbury: Messrs. Neal H. Buchanan and Crowley Weston.
Otago: Messrs. R. H. Wade and N. V. Farrell.
The selection committee is comprised of his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Lord Galway, the Rt. Hon.Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice, Sir, Andrew Russell, Hastings, the; Hon. J.; A. Hanan, Diinedin, Professor J. Hight,* C.M.G., Christchurch, Mr. S. N. Ziman, Hamilton; and Dr.'A. L. Haslam, Christchurch. N
Two Rhodes Scholarships are assigned to New Zealand each year. Tenable at Oxford, they are of an annual value of £400 each and are of three years' duration. The selected scholars are required to take up residence in October of the year for which they are elected.
