NAVY LEAGUE
At a meeting of the executive committee of the Wellington branch of the Navy League yesterday afternoon Colonel R. St. J. Beere, Captain A. V. Hale Monro, Dr. Graham Robertson, Mr. A. Dickens, and Mr. R. Darroch were appointed examiners for the Palmer Prize essay competitions, which are to be judged shortly. A cable received from the Navy League headquarters in London stated that Lord Beatty would be visiting New Zealand between January 23 and February 7. It was decided to await an air-mail letter from London before completing any arrangements for the visit.
In reply to a question from Mr. A. Mack, regarding an increase in membership, Mr. R. Darroch stated that several hew members had been enrolled during the past two weeks. Mr. R. C. Addison suggested that the time might be opportune for the formation of a branch at Gisborne. Mr. Darroch said that there had been an enthusiastic branch a>t Gisborne once, but it had ceased operations during the depression. He thought that the present time might be suitable for reviving interest. The matter was held over.
Mr. Darroch reported that arrangements for the celebrating of Trafalgar Day we're in hand.
