TAXATION AND INCOME
Mr. R. McKeen, Labour candidate for Wellington South, speaking at Berhampore last night, stated that the Labour Government had given security to the income recipient and had expanded the income so tremendously that New Zealand today was one of the lowest-taxed countries on earth. The proportion of taxation to national income showed that clearly. The figures were: New Zealand, 18.3 per cent.; Great Britain. 25.2 per cent.; France, 26.3 per cent.; Sweden. 18.9 per cent.; Denmark. 20.1- per cent, "'The increased national income in New Zealand hns resulted in the percentage of taxation actually being lower than it was under the depression Government."
